From the ancient writings of the middle east...
there is, I believe, an answer to the question of
"Just how old are mazes and puzzles?"

"It is the glory of God to conceal a thing,
but the honour of kings is to search out a matter".

A postcard from Ken Duncan's "America Wide" www.kenduncan.com

He's the same God who hid the Gold in the mountains and then said, "Seek, and you will find..."

An updated form of the same...

"It is God's privilege to conceal things,
and the king's privilege to discover and invent".

In other words, the idea of the maze is older than the dirt it's created in!
and EVERYONE loves making  - - and solving them.

Redding, CA., Pastor Bill Johnson has an interesting evaluation of this verse out of Proverbs:

"The mysteries of God are hidden FOR us, not FROM us."
